Yadhgiri: According to Yadhgiri District Health and Family Welfare Officer Dr. Mahesh Biradar, creating awareness among the public about cleanliness and health along with nutritious food is essential to eliminate anaemia and malnutrition in children, pregnant women and lactating mothers.

In the government pre-university college auditorium in Yadhgiri city, he addressed the closing ceremony of 'Poshane Run', 9th 'National Poshane Month' and the 'Swachata Hi Seva' campaign's 'Our Anganwadi - Our Responsibility' programme. He said that although there is no shortage of food in the country, there is a lack of awareness regarding nutrition and health. He expressed concern that anaemia would have a negative impact on the physical, mental and academic development of children. He appealed that the nutritional facilities provided by the government should reach the eligible beneficiaries.

Speaking at the event, Additional Director of the Department of Women and Child Development Tippanna Shirasagi said that along with anganwadi centres, the involvement of parents is also extremely important for the elimination of malnutrition.
