The family of 19-year-old Arpit, who died in the Satya Niketan PG building collapse, has decided to donate his corneas, providing a gift of sight to others amid their grief, family members said. Arpit, a second-year student at Delhi University's Atma Ram Sanatan Dharam College, was among seven people killed when the building collapsed in south Delhi's Satya Niketan area on Sunday. The family, still reeling from the loss of their young son, chose to donate his corneas to ensure his death could bring hope and sight to others.

Arpit had returned to Delhi from his hometown in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday morning after spending Rakshabandhan with his family. His mother, who had earlier urged him not to return to Delhi, was admitted to AIIMS after losing consciousness upon seeing her son's body. The family, struggling to cope with the tragedy, made the selfless decision to donate his corneas, hoping to give meaning to their son's untimely death.

The building collapse occurred around 1.30 pm on Sunday while repair work was in progress. Twelve people were rescued from the debris, of whom seven died. Arpit's friends expressed their devastation, noting that he was looking forward to returning to college and had plans to attend a concert with them. His death has left his friends and family in deep sorrow.

Delhi Police stated that the owner of the building, identified as Hariram Gupta, was apprehended from Rajasthan's Bhiwadi area on Monday. A case has been registered against the building owner and others, and a magisterial inquiry has been ordered. The police are investigating the incident to determine the cause of the collapse and hold those responsible accountable.

The family's decision to donate Arpit's corneas highlights the emotional resilience and compassion of those affected by the tragedy. While the investigation continues, the act of donation offers a measure of solace and hope in the wake of such a devastating event. The community is now focusing on supporting the family and ensuring that Arpit's legacy continues in a meaningful way.
